Shopify Introduces New Mobile POS Hardware to Power a New Kind of Retail
Shopify recently announced the launch of its latest point-of-sale technology, POS Go (“Go”), aimed at meeting the ever-evolving needs of brick-and-mortar stores. The new hardware gives merchants the flexibility to deliver a new kind of in-person shopping experience, blending Shopify’s online platform with services for offline retail. Shopify described Go as an all-in-one, POS mobile selling device that enables merchants to close sales, take payments, and stay on top of their businesses.
As the world bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers are returning to brick-and-mortar stores. Shopify has adapted to this new environment of slowed e-commerce growth by adding to its in-store products. Arpan Podduturi, VP of product at Shopify, explained that Go was purpose-built for Shopify’s revamped POS software, which relaunched in 2020. “With offline retail all the way back, we're investing heavily in hardware that's fit for the fastgrowing, most innovative retailers in the world,” Podduturi said of Go.
In the first half of 2022, sales made by merchants using Shopify’s POS grew by nearly 60%. Go expands on the features offered in Shopify’s POS by allowing merchants to manage inventory in real-time across all channels, gain insights on store reporting and performance, and offer customers mobile checkouts. Go can scan products, accept cards and contactless payments, fulfill in-store pickup and delivery orders, track inventory, and manage customers all from one sleek mobile device.
With Go, merchants can close sales anywhere, while viewing detailed product information, customer notes and purchase history to enhance in-store experiences. Go also gives retailers a unified view of their businesses to analyze sales, analytics and inventory.
Commerce happens all around us, in many different ways – online, offline and everywhere in between. As the commerce platform for millions of merchants all over the world, Shopify’s priority is “continuing to innovate and give merchants tools that help future proof their business, no matter the channel.” In this dynamic and ever-shifting retail landscape, Shopify believes that Go will be a vital tool in merchants’ success.
