Structured Finance and Derivatives
Our Structured Finance and Derivatives team is dedicated to achieving our clients’ risk management, investment, capital, tax and accounting objectives through innovative, cutting-edge transactions.
We are renowned for our skills and expertise in designing and executing novel and complex transactions covering a broad spectrum of financial products, asset classes and structures. We advise and assist our clients on: CLOs, CDOs, structured notes, monetizations, mortgage, trade receivable and retail loan securitizations, credit, equity, FX, interest rate and commodity derivatives, forwards, futures and puts, total return swaps, credit-linked notes, covered bonds, commercial paper, repos, securities lending and debt trading. Our clients rely upon us to deliver business solutions satisfying legal and regulatory requirements, while accommodating commercial imperatives in an efficient, professional and service-oriented manner.
Creative Business Insight
Our Group is well versed in the regulatory and commercial requirements to be addressed in the context of devising and implementing securitization programmes, structured products and derivatives transactions. By combining this expertise with the ingenuity, versatility and industry relationships of our team members, we are ideally suited to engineer unprecedented, state-of-the-art structures and solutions responsive to our clients’ unique needs as they evolve. There is no better example of our creativity, results-oriented approach and business aptitude than the successful restructuring of the $32 billion non-bank sponsored asset-backed commercial paper market in Canada in 2009. The ABCP restructuring became the largest court-supervised debt restructuring in Canadian history and was the world’s largest private market restructuring response to the 2008 credit crunch.

Goodmans offers clients a multi-disciplinary approach to structured finance and derivatives matters, drawing from a wide range of practice areas within the firm including tax, corporate finance, banking and corporate restructuring.
