Construction and Infrastructure
We are one of Canada’s leading construction practices and are recognized market leaders in contentious and non-contentious construction law matters. Clients trust our lawyers to provide strategic advice throughout the entire life cycle of their construction projects and often call on us in their most dire situations. We work with clients to understand and minimize project risks, and negotiate complex construction contracts, contracts with design consultants, joint venture agreements, project finance agreements, subcontracts and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) design/build agreements.
Our mandates span jurisdictions across Canada. We have been involved in noteworthy, multi-year construction and infrastructure projects, including the private sector development of the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games Athletes’ Village Project, the Highway Service Centres of Ontario Design, Build, Finance, Maintain Project, the Fredericton to Moncton Highway Project, Highway 407, the world’s first electronic toll road, Waterfront Toronto, and major transit and other infrastructure projects in Toronto.
Our team of lawyers are experts in both commercial and dispute resolution aspects of construction law – we understand the technical capabilities required to successfully take a project from inception to completion, and we work with clients on site to put measures in place to avoid potential litigation.
When litigation is necessary, we fiercely protect our clients’ interests and have dedicated specialists in the areas of alternate dispute resolution, mediation and arbitration, including complex, lengthy, multi-party disputes involving hundreds of millions of dollars. We have appeared in trial and appellate courts across Canada.
Our lawyers are recognized as thought leaders in the industry and are frequently called on to publish reviews, responses and evaluations of new regulations and changes in the construction space. Our lawyers often participate in seminars, as panellists and speakers. They contribute chapters to various construction manuals/books and have published the leading manual in construction law.
